f you live in Oklahoma and would like to write or
illustrate children's books, you've come to the right
place.

We
are a group of writers and
illustrators who come together to learn from each other and to encourage each other. You become a member of our group when you join the
international SCBWI. You can find the national office at
www.scbwi.org.
The mailing address is: SCBWI,
8271 Beverly Boulevard,
Los Angeles,
California

.
In
Oklahoma, we come together twice each year for conferences. Our fall conference is in
Chandler, Oklahoma, between
Oklahoma City
and
Tulsa. At the fall conference, our
members share their expertise with each other.
In April
we bring in editors, agents, art directors or successful
writers from other states to speak and review
manuscripts and art work. The spring conference alternates between
Tulsa
and Oklahoma City.
Each
month SCBWI Oklahoma has meetings in
Tulsa
and Oklahoma City. We call
these informal meetings Schmoozes.
At a Schmooze we usually discuss some aspect of the
writing business, and we enjoy the chance to visit with
each other.
Let
us know if you have questions about Oklahoma SCBWI.

SCBWI
Promotional Policy
It is now SCBWI policy not to promote self-published or print-on-demand books. This is not a condemnation of anyone’s book. There are times when self publishing makes sense, but such a publishing decision must be made carefully. SCBWI wishes to promote traditionally published books. This new policy does not keep any writer from joining SCBWI or attending SCBWI events. It does, however, mean a change in levels of membership. The new policy also limits the kind of books that will be linked to the Oklahoma SCBWI web site or sold at our conferences at the book table. Any writer is free to sell his or her own books at a conference. If a writer feels a publisher should be considered a traditional publisher, the writer may appeal the decision by contacting the SCBWI main office.
